3rd EMERGENT TECHNOLOGY

For my third and final emerging technology, I chose to use the program Gliffy. I had never heard of this website before and decided to see what it was all about. It's a program that allows you to make flowcharts- and allows you to do it easily. I decided to use this program to create a training/cheat sheet for some of my new employees at work. It lays out the receiving process in simple terms and the flowchart puts it into a step by step process. Gliffy was a great find!! Since we are constantly hiring new people, I think that this is going to be great to use!

2nd EMERGENT TECHNOLOGY

For my second project in emerging technologies, I chose to use the program PhotoShow. It was extremely user friendly and convenient as well. It allows you to pull photos from pretty much anywhere you can think of. I have a new laptop and haven't taken the time to transfer any of my photos on to it, but it didn't matter since one of the options PhotoShow gives you it to upload from your Facebook albums. Kind of like how Blogger walked you through to set up your page, PhotoShow had about 8 different tabs that you followed along with to get your slideshow up and running. You could add music, captions, frames, and even stickers if you wanted to. This program is great if you need it all kind of laid out for you. The only thing that I didn't like was that if you wanted more options with the design, you had to buy a membership.

^RSS FEEDS^

So usually I stare at the computer for a good ten minutes when I start a new assignment for this class, but with this one it all just kind of made sense. (Finally!) I first wanted to put the gadget on my blog so that it was all right here, but I couldn't get it to work quite right, so I decided to open a google account. So I went to open the account to find that I already had one. Easy as that. I decided to subscribe to a website that gave me updates about new cell phones, computer software, video games, etc. and to a website that is geared to help elementary teachers in the classroom by providing project ideas, games, lesson planning tips, and pretty much everything else you can think of. The other three of my choice were one from ENews (gotta know the gossip), updates from The Red Hot Chili Peppers (my fav), and from Women's Health magazine. 15 min or so after setting up the feed I went back to check and was surprised to see that there was already a change in some of the information. I am extremely glad we got to do this because I think by far this is something that I will continue to use. Very helpful!!

Tuesday, February 9, 2010

I was very intimidated by this assignment...I will probably say that with all assignments that deal with computers. However, the hardest part of the assignment was trying to figure out what to do it on. I recently bought a new laptop and used the built in webcam and software that it came with to do my recording. It wasn't that hard at all. I played around with it a little and figured out how to add the snowing effect.

This past Friday, my boyfriend had double hernia surgery so I have been staying with him and helping him out- cooking, cleaning, taking care of his dogs, etc. The only time I have left the apartment was to get a refill on one of his perscriptions yesterday, so can we say CABIN FEVER!!! You can tell from my powerpoint that I live for anything beach, so this snow is breaking me down. I could not think of anything to do for this vodcast, so I thought in honor of all of this glorious snow, I would recite a short poem by one of my all time favorites, Shel Silverstein called Snowball. Starring along side me is Douglas' Boston Terrier, Maggie (she was very interested as to why I was talking to the computer). So even if the poem isn't that deep in meaning, Maggie's pretty adorable to look at=) Hope this makes you snow haters smile!
